The Project EXPAND team has met with the following Registered Apprentice Providers (RAPs). The information below is subject to change, and additional RAPs may be added as information is available.

Entry Requirements
Minimum Age 18
Require HS diploma or GED? No
Require visa/citizenship? No, however require some form of identification with SSN; Would have to work with contractor to get sponsorship for visa
Require driver's license? No
Require drug test? Yes (once at beginning of apprenticeship)
Is there a pre-test? 70-minute timed test one month before they are set to begin (evidence of IEP will provide applicant unlimited time)

--Applicants will be ranked based on scores and get picked based on availability for contractors

--Applicants can retake if they don’t do well
Pre-Skills Required 8th grade math (fractions & decimals)
Must already have job in field? No
Program Information
Program Length 5 Years
Classroom Hours 932 hours (7am-3pm)
Paid for Classroom Hours? Yes ($100 a week)
Class/Field Schedule Each week is 40 hours of work. Every other week, the apprentice will attend 8 hours of classroom instruction (32 hours on-site/8 hours of classroom instruction). On other weeks, the apprentice is in the field for 40 hours.
Starting Hourly Wage $20.29 per hour
Payment Structure Paid once a week
Pay Increase Timeline 5% every 6 months
Disability Accommodations -- Anything in-house (tests, assignments) can be provided accommodations and extra time

-- Some certifications are from national organizations and accommodations cannot be made locally. Apprentice is invited to contact the national organization
Classroom Learning Structure 12-week courses; Can choose final elective based on interests
Apprentices Capacity Somewhat unlimited (Recruit 4x a year: Jan, April, July, October // matriculate about 60 a year)
Tool/Supplies Equipment to Start -- Purchase minimum number of hand tools (~$150)
-- CBA says cannot purchase power tools
-- Must buy boots
-- PPE and safety equipment provided by contractor
Program Outcomes
Benefits 400 hours of work (within first 90 days // 10 weeks) — get pension, healthcare, 401k // no added cost for family members
Job Support? Obligated by law to provide them a job for 5 years if apprentice is attending classes and showing up to work
Certifications Earned Pipe welding, flat metal welding, OSHA 10/30 // can get certified in any specific area they want in their 3rd year (3 certs gets them $1k welding kit)

AWS— offer all welding certifications

-- BIM Coordinators & CAD coordination
-- Sheet metal manufacturing
-- TAB — testing and balancing
Job/Field Opportunities -- Duct work (70%)
-- Misc metals (8-10%)
-- Roofing: opper & architectural metal panels (elevators and escalators)
-- Refrigeration services
-- Welding (in everything)

-- Once a journeyman, all night courses are free!!!!
Other Notes -- Focus on DC residents
-- 1/3 white, 1/3 Black, 1/3 Latinx
-- Direct entry for women //Females are strongest in welding (hand eye coordination)
--  90-day probation period if they do not show up consistently
